ACM Spotlight: Snowbotix

September 25, 2026 3 min read

As beautiful as Michigan summers may be, rarely do we hear that one reason to be at the American Center for Mobility is the weather! Yet, among other deciding factors, outdoor robotic maintenance firm Snowbotix says its home base at ACM since 2023 is perfect for a company that tests its robots in a variety of weather and climate settings. In this ACM spotlight, Snowbotix CEO Sasi Prabhakaran shares what’s been happening at this fast-growing company, and why ACM plays a part - even on sunny days!

ACM: The Snowbotix name certainly gives us a clue to its focus, but how do you describe your key product?

Sasi Prabhakaran: The Snowbotix SMUR X1 is an autonomous, modular platform for year-round outdoor maintenance. It’s 100% electric, has zero emissions, is built for extreme environments, and always operates under human oversight. The product can perform multiple functions with its different 9 attachments, including any type of mowing, sweeping, or snow and ice removal to the highest standards. It also includes fully autonomous wireless charging where needed.

ACM: Given the weather conditions variable, how does Snowbotix ensure safety during the deployment of its equipment?

Sasi Prabhakaran: We use what we call “supervised autonomy.” Snowbotix equipment, at its heart, is controlled by centimeter-level satellite telemetry, supported by radar and camera and other on-board sensors, along with multi-band 4G/5G cellular communications, with a satellite communications option where cellular is not available, all fully integrated. This multi-band communication keeps the company’s Fleet Operators in constant contact with the robot, wherever it is deployed around the world. We have a human in the loop at all times for human and vehicle safety first purposes. With 1,000+ hours of uncrewed deployment, Snowbotix has an outstanding safety record.

ACM: What type of customer does Snowbotix serve?

Sasi Prabhakaran: Our ground maintenance robots are popular with a variety of sectors that have at least five acres to maintain, including municipalities, large healthcare and educational campuses, airports, civil defense and oil and gas extraction and processing sites, highways, Department of Transportation rest stops, and commercial real estate, including large corporate and industrial campuses.

ACM: How does Snowbotix address human capital challenges in the marketplace?

Sasi Prabhakaran: Snowbotix robots perform outdoor maintenance services, often in extreme weather, and on a 24-hour cycle, deployable pretty much anywhere in the world. Such demands can make these jobs difficult to fill, so our services also meet a need in response to the labor shortage.

ACM: In addition to Michigan’s many weather cycles, and extreme heat and cold conditions, how does ACM ignite innovation at Snowbotix?

Sasi Prabhakaran: For starters, the ACM track, with its steep incline slopes, is ideal for testing and improving upon our robotic all-season maintenance equipment. We also appreciate the collaborative spirit among our fellow ACM residents – it’s inspiring. Being close to the innovative spirit of the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor is a plus, too.

ACM: Any parting thoughts?

Sasi Prabhakaran: Snowbotix, a DBA for our parent company, Roboworkx, which develops what we call a vehicle- and equipment-agnostic Autonomy-in-a-Box physical AI tech stack, presents an excellent example of robots in the real world, no matter what industry. They are complementing the human workforce in a safe and effective manner. With a new COO on board, Klaus Hahn, an invitation to pitch Snowbotix for venture capital at the mega trade conference, TechCrunch, in October, a brand-new website and an expansion of customers interested in our products, Snowbotix is experiencing a tremendous amount of momentum now.
