American Center for Mobility and AT&T Extend Collaboration
AT&T will serve as exclusive network provider for the Ypsilanti, Michigan Smart City Test Center through 2023
5G network will support advanced research into automated driving
Ypsilanti, Mich. February 24, 2020 — American Center for Mobility (ACM) and AT&T are extending their collaboration to speed development of connected and automated vehicle technologies.
AT&T, founding network provider since 2017, has worked with ACM to build out a private 4G/LTE cellular network covering the test environment at the 500-acre automotive proving ground. This has enabled flexibility and customization necessary to test, validate, and evolve connected and automated vehicle technologies.
Now, the relationship will continue for another three years, through 2023.
AT&T is adding a 5G Sub-6Ghz network for advanced research and testing capabilities at the facility. 5G will provide improved speeds and reduced latency to support services for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication technologies.
“We’re proud of the strides we’ve made at Willow Run, with AT&T’s support,” said Mark Chaput, Interim CEO of ACM. “Our groundbreaking progress on the support of vehicle-to-everything technologies is made possible in large part to the strength and security of AT&T’s network. We look forward to three more years collaborating rapid and safe development of these life-saving technologies.”
“Our work with ACM is setting the standard for how cross-industry collaboration and public-private partnerships are helping lay the groundwork for a safer, scalable and cost-effective driverless future,” said Chris Penrose, Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions, AT&T. “Together, we are paving the way for innovations that will change how we think about driving.”
